WSOP 2014 Event #57 - Dan Colman Wins Big One, Negreanu 2nd

WSOP 2014 Event #57 - The Big One Kicks Off, Trickett in the Lead

A total of 42 players registered for the 2014 $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop, or WSOP Event #57, falling short of expectations. Still, the future winner has no reason not to be satisfied with $37,333,338 in the prize pool and $15,306,668 up for grabs as the first prize – even if Antonio Esfandiari’s record of 2012 will not be broken this time.

In the course of the first day, 11 players got eliminated, the first of which being David Einhorn. 2012 Big One 3rd finisher Einhorn 3-bet to 51.000 late on Level 1 (1,000/3,000/6,000) to be called by Big One runner-up and original raiser Sam Trickett. The flop came 2Heart JClubs 6Diamond, Einhorn opened to 75.000 and Trickett called. Einhorn bet 175.000 on the 3Spade turn, Trickett tanked a bit before raising to 475,000, Einhorn 3-bet to 775.000 and Trickett called. The river came QClubs, Einhorn bet 850.000, Trickett shoved and Einhorn snap-called.

WSOP 2014 Event #46 Hennigan Wins Poker Players Championship

Eight players returned on the last day of WSOP Event #46 $50,000 Poker Players Championship to crown a champion.

In the lead was the prodigy of this year’s World Series, Event #3 $1,000 PLO winner, Event #18 $10,000 Seven Card Razz runner-up and Event #43 $1,500 Limit Hold’em 3rd finisher Brandon Shack-Harris. He was followed in the chip counts by WSOP 2009 $2,500 27TD champion Abe Mosseri, among other renowned players.

WSOP 2014 Event #47 - Jesse McEuen Wins Ante-Only NLHE

The Final Table took place on Day 3 of WSOP Event #47 $1.500 Ante-Only No Limit Hold'em with Jeremy Joseph leading the field (689,000). Renowned players at the table included Ryan D'Angelo, WSOP champion Simeon Naydenov and Adam Levy.

Only two players returned on an unscheduled Day 4 of WSOP Event #44 $1,500 No Limit Hold’em: Jordan Morgan and Evan McNiff started with roughly similar stacks.

On the previous event day, the two of them were playing over six hours before they had to bag and tag their chips. Tuesday started out slowly as well and after 2.5 hours, the difference between their stacks was still not significant.

WSOP 2014 Event #46 - Mercier Leads Poker Players Championship

On the first two days of Event #46 $50,000 Poker Players Championship, a total of 102 players registered, accumulating a prize pool of $4,896,000. With the top 14 finishes paying, the winner takes home a handsome $1,517,767.

The first day saw the elimination of Sergii Baranov, Dan Shak, Michael Glick and Phil Galfond, while the second that of even more seasoned pros. For instance, Phil Hellmuth called all-in in a PLO hand on David Steicke’s shove on the 2Heart QClubs 6Diamond flop. They were both called by Michael Mizrachi from a larger stack.

In order to increase the popularity of poker in the USA, Poker Nigh in America will be screened through 26 weeks, from late June to December.

CBS Sports Network has announced that the larger than life poker show, Poker Night in America kicks off on 29 June. The show runs each Sunday at 22:00 ET, in the course of 26 weeks until December.

Steve Day Says PokerStars Deal Does Not Impact Player Experience

The news of Amaya purchasing PokerStars parent company Rational Group almost instantly gave rise to concerns among players regarding the future of the market leader room. Steve ‘PokerStars Steve’ Day responded to counter these voices.

On 12 June, it was officially announced that Amaya Gaming had purchased the Rational Group for $4.9 billion, meaning the Ongame parent company is now the owner of PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. The deal has been in the centre of discussion ever since in the poker community with a wide range of questions arisen and concerns voiced. Rumour has even had it that PokerStars would stop accepting players from Canada.

12 players survived until Day 3 of WSOP Event #30 $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low 8-or-Better. In the lead was Eric Kurtzman with 490,000 in chips, ahead of online MTT ace Calvin ‘cal42688’ Anderson, who sat back behind a stack of 356,000.

The eight-handed Final Table was formed after Matthew Kelly, David Brooker, Robert Goldfarb and six times WSOP champion Ted Forrest got eliminated. In addition to Anderson, Jimmy Fricke and Joe Tehan were also at the table, to name a few notables.
