Guy Laliberté sells Cirque du Soleil

The biggest loser in the history of high stakes online poker, Guy Laliberté is selling 90% of the Cirque du Soleil shares to American company TPG Capital. The Canadian businessman and entrepreneur will receive $1.5 billion for the shares.

Guy Laliberté founded Cirque du Soleil in 1984, which grew to one of the biggest companies in the entertainment business. Laliberté owned 80% of the company and was also the CEO.

Recently there were rumours about him selling the company, and it was confirmed that TPG Capital will buy 90% of the companys shares for $1.5 billion.

Laliberté is 1006th on the Forbes Worlds Most Wealthiest list, and is also known as a poker player, but not for the good reasons. Laliberté is the biggest loser in the history of online high stakes poker, he lost more than $25 million combined on his noataima, lady marmelade, patatino, elmariachiomacho and esvedra nicknames.

Laliberté is the man behind the WSOP $1.000.000 Big One for One Drop, where 11% of the buy-in is used for charitable purposes.

High stakes online pros shouldn't get too excited yet though, Laliberté has stated that he plans to use his money to be more involved with his charity projects.
