Jason Mercier wins third SCOOP title in one week

Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier won his third SCOOP title in a week, defeating a field of 398 in the Event #20-H $2.100 NLHE 4-max for $178,457.

We have previously reported about Jason Mercier's sick run in the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) and the American pro shows no signs of slowing down.

Mercier started the SCOOP with a win in the Event #5-H $2.100 FL Badugi, defeating a field of 56 players for $39.200, then followed it up with a win in the Event #8-H $2.100 NL Draw, beating a star-studded field of 43 players that included Mike "SirWatts" Watson, Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz and George Danzer, he received $39.200 for the win.

On May 17 Mercier registered for Event #20-H, a $2.100 buy-in NLHE 4-max tournament (398 entrants, $796,000 prize pool) and advanced to Day 2 with 15 other players.

Mericer reached the final table along with SCOOP record holder Calvin "cal42688" Anderson and Ryan "HITTHEPANDA" Franklin, the finale started with the following stacks.

Seat 1. Calvin "cal42688" Anderson - 656.498
Seat 2. Jason Mercier - 333.618
Seat 3. TransSib - 365.709
Seat 4. Ryan "HITTHEPANDA" Franklin - 164.982
Seat 5. AnyGameSir - 469.193

The first elimination of the final table was AnyGameSir and he was soon followed by TransSib. Cal42688 was the chip leader with 3 players left, but Mercier also had a lot of chips, while HITTHEPANDA was the shortstack.

Mercier took several big pots off cal42688, in one hand cal42688 limped in the small blind and called Mercier's raise of 19,328. On a flop of Q-J-2 (two spades) cal42688 check/raised to 49,999 after Mercier put out a continuation bet, Mercier 3bet to 98.328, cal42688 4bet to 177.890 then folded when Mercier 5bet to 1.140.000.

Mercier and cal42688 played extremely aggressive with lots of preflop raises and re-raises, in his final hand cal42688 5bet shoved for 50 big blinds with K-Q, unfortunately for him, Mercier woke up with K-K and held up.

Heads-up play started with the following stacks and players decided to make a deal, Mercier got $170.457 while HITTHEPANDA walked away with $152.789.

Jason Mercier - 1.240.909
HITTHEPANDA - 749.091

In the final hand of the tournament, Mercier got his money in with 9-9 preflop against HITTHEPANDA's T-T, and hit a 9 to win his third SCOOP title in a week and fourth overall.
