Retired poker pro keeps crushing - Fedor Holz wins another high roller
The German phenom outlasted 442 players to scoop the title and $178,498 in the first event of the PokerStars High Rollers series.
No one could stop Fedor
One of the best high roller specialist, Fedor Holz is no stranger to the online felt. Even though he's been focusing on the live circuit for the last few years, his roots belong to online MTT's. He was the #1 ranked online tournament player in back to back years, crushing the games both in 2014 and 2015. After years of online grind, he turned to the live scene, where he amassed a whopping $26 million in about 3 years. Fedor announced his retirement last year but he has a slightly different definition of the term than one would think. He added $6 million to his live winning this year and also a regular participant in the high roller tournaments online.
The final table of the event
It was no surprise he jumped back into the online action once more when PokerStars announced their newest High Rollers series - with 22 events and $11.4 million in guaranteed prizes. The series kicked off on November 26 with the $2,100 NLHE event. A total of 442 players decided to play the event and given the buy-in, the field was naturally packed with top notch players like Partypoker Patrick "pads1161" Leonard or Team PokerStars pro Igor "IgorKurganov" Kurganov. 55 of them reached the money.
Day2 of the event started on Monday, with 17 players still in. Holz was already leading the field at that time and managed to dominate the tournament as well as the final table. He beat Argentina's "88maca88" in the heads-up for the win. There was no deal made so Fedor added $178,498 to his name, while runner-up "88maca88" cashed for $134,058.
