Winfred Yu takes down HK$500,000 Short Deck event in Montenegro

The Triton Super High Roller Series in Budva is still going at full speed, with three champions already crowned.

The first three events have already ended at the Maestral Resort & Casino in Budva, Montenegro. After Steve O'Dwyer took down the first event, Bryn Kenney raised the trophy in the second and now Winfred Yu joining the list of the champions.

Even though Yu is no stranger to high-stakes poker, and already has $4 million in tournament winnings, he was thrilled with the outcome. "I’m very excited," Yu told Triton Poker after the victory. "It’s my first Triton championship. Last year I came fourth in the short-deck main event, this time I got the job done."

Winfred outlasted a field of 70 (including 28 re-entries) and added HK$2,040,000 ($260,000) to his winnings.

Only 11 players returned to the final day, with Peter Jetten holding the chip lead. The remaining field was the who is who of the high-stakes scene, with Steffen Sontheimer, Leon Tsoukernik, or Sam Greenwood in the mix. After the elimination of Wei Lim Chin, Paul Phua, and Greenwood, the players reached the money.

The first player to walk away with a prize was Tam Tek Lon, who left the table in 7th place to pick up his $42,044 at the cage. After the departure of Lon, Ukraine's Ihor Shkliaruk hit the rail. Ihor received a consolation prize of $53,510 for his 6th-place finish.

Germany's high-roller regular, Steffen Sontheimer exited in fifth place which earned $69,000 for the young talent this time. Owner of King's Casino, Rozvadov, Leon Tsoukernik followed Steffen on his way out, busting in 4th place which was good for $89,185 this time.

Start of the day chip leader, Jetten busted in third place and was the first player to book a six-figure score in form of the $117,217 reward.

Yu faced partypoker Ambassador, Ike Haxton in the heads-up and the latter hold a 3-1 chip lead over him. However, Winfred was able to grab the lead and then he was lucky enough to crack pocket kings with queen-jack to take down the title and the $260,000 coming with it. Ike added $174,551 to his bankroll for finishing as the runner-up.
