Russia's Upcoming Gambling Industry in Crimea

Vladimir Putin, Russia's president signed a law to establish a gambling zone in Crimea. Smile Expo, a conference organizer created the Crimea Gambling Congress, which will be held on August 22, and will gather investors, operators, and regulators, with the goal to get the most out of the new gambling area.

Crimea is a resort area, lots of tourists visit it each year, which makes it a great spot for the creation of a legal gambling area, and it will enhance the local economy aswell.

The investments in the area (both international and Russian investment groups have shown interest) are expected to create thousands of job opportunities.

Crimea would be one of the places on Russia's list of gambling zones (gambling is not allowed outside these areas).

The Russian Deputy Finance Minister will also make an appearance, since it is his departments responsibility to watch over the opening of this, and possible other gambling zones.

During the Congress, investors will be able to get a clearer picture regarding the licenses and taxes.

They hope that by the end of the Congress, they will be able to form a team of businessmen and government members to be in charge of the area.

Officials see the Crimean operations as a step that could largely impact both the local economy, by building hotels, restaurants, theater and other sports and recreational facilities.

After taking a step in the live gambling scene, they have also reconsidered their stance regarding online poker. Several internet providers have been told to shut out Russian players from some poker sites, but now official believe that the legalization of online poker in Russia is required, both for the local and the international market.
