Which Poker Pro has the biggest social media success? Part 1

PokerStars used social monitoring tool Followerwonk and Likealyzer to find out which poker players are the most popular on social media nowadays. Here are the results!

Followerwonk determines a Twitter profile's popularity by checking the retweet rate of an accounts last few hundred tweets. Likealyzer uses signals from Facebook like number of likes a page has, the average numbers of shares, likes and comments per post, and more.

On the top of the overall list is Daniel Negreanu, which is no surprise, Kid Poker is known for his activity on the different social media platforms, and has been praised by Bluff Magazine for being able to stay in the spotlight for the past 10 years. He is one of the biggest promoters of the game both in poker and mainstream media, and he also knows how to throw a huge birthday party!

Negreanu uses Twitter (@REALKIDPOKER), Facebook, Instagram and has his own Youtube channel that he often updates with vlogs, or the so called "Weekly Rants". He has 306,000 followers on Twitter which is the third best in the list. When it comes to Facebook likes, his 122,000 only fall behind Phil Ivey's.

Daniel is a very open and opinionated character in the poker world and a great ambassador for the industry, so his first place finish is well deserved.

The second on the leaderboard is Phil Ivey, who has almost 1 million followers on his @PHILIVEY Twitter, which is the highest number on the list. He also tops the Facebook like list, 194,000 people have decided to follow his adventures on the site.

Ivey has been known for keeping private and rarely giving interviews in the past, but ever since he has launched his Ivey League training site, he started to share more and more. He frequently uses Twitter while playing tournaments, and his Facebook and Instagram accounts are also popular. When he made a deep run at this years WSOP Main Event, his Twitter and Facebook were exploding with good wishes.

On Youtube, the Ivey League channel often posts episodes of "The Ivey Life", short videos that will help you to get to know Ivey, as well as strategy advices from Ivey League pros, and more.

Rounding out the top 3 is Liv Boeree, who has a relatively small following compared to Ivey and Negreanu, but Likealyzer rates her as the second in the list. Boeree has appeared on TV programs on BBC and Channel 4, used to be a UKIPT co-host and is co-host a Discovery Channel show.

She has also modelled in magazines like Loaded Magazine and Maxim Magazine. She has also participated in multiple reality TV shows.

Thanks to her vast experience in television and mainstream media, and the fame she gained by winning EPT San Remo, she brings the attention to poker to a lot of people who would've never heard about it otherwise, and that's why she makes a great ambassador for the game.

Recently, Hachem also released a statement where he wrote that the Main Event winners have to be better ambassadors to the game, and he critiqued Main Event winners such as Jerry Yang and Jamie Gold for not doing so.
