Phil Hellmuth wins 14th WSOP bracelet in $10,000 Razz Championship

Last year Phil Hellmuth was close to capturing bracelet #14, he started the heads-up in the $1,500 Razz event against Ted Forrest with a 4:1 chip lead. In the end, Forrest managed to turn it around and the Poker Brat was left without a bracelet. This year he returned to the WSOP hungry as ever and defeated Mike Gorodinsky in the heads-up of the $10,000 Razz Championship to win $271,105 and his record 14th bracelet.

Phil Hellmuth is no stranger to Razz, he won his first bracelet in the format in 2012, taking down Event #18 $2,500 Razz for $182,793 and in 2014 he finished runner-up to Ted Forrest in Event # $1,500 Razz.

Hellmuth was in a great spot to win another bracelet, he was sitting third in chips with 12 remaining in the $10,000 Razz Championship.

The first elimination on Day 3 was Trevor Jones, he was soon followed by Erik Seidel and Eric Wasserson finished as the final table bubble boy.

Seat 1: Shaun Deeb - 108.000
Seat 2: Jryi Merivirta - 212.000
Seat 3: Mike Gorodinsky - 559.000
Seat 4: Stephen Chidwick - 168.000
Seat 5: Adam Owen - 460.000
Seat 6: Thomas Keller - 577.000
Seat 7: Mike Leah - 362.000
Seat 8: Brandon Shack-Harris - 182.000
Seat 9. Phil Hellmuth - 458.000

The chip leader was WSOP bracelet winner Thomas Keller with a slight advantage over 2013 $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo champ Mike Gorodinsky.

In the first hand of the finale (15,000-30,000-3,000, Bring-in: 3,000) Keller paid the bring-in, Shack-Harris called, Hellmuth completed and Deeb, Keller and Shack-Harris called.

Keller and Shack-Harris got out of the hand on fourth street while Hellmuth and Deeb held the following cards.

Hellmuth: (X-X)/2-5-9-4/X
Deeb: (X-X)/9-A-4-7/X

Hellmuth bet 15,000 on fourth street, Deeb raised to 30,000 (thats when Shack-Harris and Keller folded), Hellmuth raised and Deeb called all-in for 45,000. Deeb shoved a 7 and a 3, Hellmuth was drawing to a wheel with an Ace and a 3, and he got there on 6th street, leaving Deeb drawing dead and taking over the chiplead with 610.000 chips.

During Level 23 (20,000/40,000-5,000, Bring-in: 5000) last year's winner of the $1,000 PLO event, Brandon-Shack Harris was all-in on fourth street with a short stack against Gorodinsky.

Shack-Harris: (6-4)/5-2-7-6/(X)
Gorodinsky: (7-5)/A-4-9-8/(X)

Gorodinsky's last card was a 3, making him a 7-5 low. Shack-Harris had 7-6 low and received a Ten as his last card, which wasn't enough to improve his hand.

Chidwick was eliminated not much later, he lost against Keller's 8-5 low, and not much later Keller also busted Merivirta.

On Level 25 (30,000-60,000-7,000, Bring-in: 10,000) Hellmuth won a big pot from Keller, increasing his stack to 1.520.000. Keller was left short-stacked and soon lost his remaining chips to Gorodinsky.

Keller: (7-T)/4-Q-T-8/(2)
Gorodinsky: (A-9)/J-5-7-6/(2)

The next elimination was Mike "goleafsgoeh" Leah.

Leah: (T-4)/7-K-4-6/(3)
Gorodinsky: (8-4)/A-6-2-8/(Crazy

Phil Hellmuth - 1.700.000
Mike Gorodinsky - 1.260.000
Adam Owen - 460.000

During 3-handed play Gorodinsky took over the lead and on Level 26 (40,000-80,000-10,000, Bring in: 10,000) eliminated Owen.

Gorodinsky: (X-X)/3-K-A-3
Owen: (X-X)/Q-6-9-K

By 6th street most of the money was in the pot, Owen check/called 80.000, leaving only 24,000 behind. On the river these chips also went in the middle, Owen showed 8-5-4 for 9-8 low, unfortunately for him, Gorodinsky showed 8-7-2 for 8-7 high to win the pot.

Mike Gorodinsky: 1.966.000
Phil Hellmuth: 1.100.000

The lead changed several times during heads-up play and on Level 28 (60,000/120,000-15,000, Bring-in: 20,000) Hellmuth won a big pot to take a commanding lead.

Gorodinsky paid the bring-in, Hellmuth completed and Gorodinsky called. On fourth street Gorodinsky got a 7 and Hellmuth got a Queen and both players checked. On fifth street Gorodinsky got an Ace while Hellmuth got a 9. Hellmuth checked, Gorodinsky bet and Hellmuth check/raised to 240,000 and Gorodinsky called.

Gorodinsky: (X-X)/7-7-A-Q
Hellmuth: (X-X)/6-Q-9-2

On 6th street Hellmuth bet 120,000 and Gorodinsky called. On the river Hellmuth bet 120,000 and Gorodinsky folded his hand face up, having received a third 7 on the river.

Phil Hellmuth - 2.645.000
Mike Gorodinsky - 455.000

Gorodinsky's stack soon dwindled to 70,000 and even though he managed to double up twice, he was eliminated on the third try. In the final hand Gorodinsky paid the bring-in and Hellmuth called.

Gorodinsky: (T-2)/5-4-T-Q/(X)
Hellmuth: (7-6)/4-K-T-2/(X)

On fourth street Gorodinsky bet 60,000, Hellmuth raised to 120,000, Gorodinsky shoved for 265,000 and Hellmuth called. On the river Hellmuth showed an Ace, and Gorodinsky showed a 6 for the second best hand.

Phil Hellmuth won the 14th WSOP bracelet of his career, extending his lead over Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey and Johnny Chan, who each have 10 bracelets.
