Malec wins Main Event, Drinan takes down High Roller at EPT Barcelona

21-year old Polish player Sebastian Malec defeated Uri Reichenstein in heads-up of the €5,300 Main Event to claim the €1,122,800 first place prize while Connor Drinan defeated Mihails Morozovs in the €10,300 High Roller to take home €849,200.

On Sunday, seven players returned to the final table of the €5,300 EPT Barcelona Main Event. The chipleader was Uri Reichenstein with 11,330,000 chips but Adam "Adamyid" Owen and Andreas "xalkidas" Chalkiadakis were also in the hunt for the title.

Seat 1. Uri Reichenstein - 11.325.000
Seat 2.Thomas De Rooij - 11.175.000
Seat 3.Andreas Chalkiadakis - 5.000.000
Seat 4. Zorlu Er - 7.075.000
Seat 5. Harcharan Dogra Dogra - 1.700.000
Seat 6. Adam Owen - 9.800.000
Seat 7. Sebastian Malec - 7.325.000

Play kicked off on Level 32 (100,000/200,000 - 25,000 ante) and we only had to wait eight hands until the first elimination.

Thomas de Rooij raised to 450,000 from the cutoff and Dogra Dogra thought long and hard about what he should do with his 6 big blind stack. Eventually, the clock was called on him and he decided to call. On the 9-5-2 rainbow flop Dogra Dogra shoved his remaining 750,000 chips into the pot and de Rooji called.

Dogra Dogra was ahead with 3-2 but de Rooij had an overcard and a gutshot with A-4. He hit his four on the river after a blank turn and eliminated Dogra Dogra in seventh.

In Hand 15 of the final table, Chalkiadakis shoved all-in after a cutoff raise with K-Q, unfortunately for him Owen woke up with A-Q suited after him and also shoved. The best hand held up and Chalkiadakis was gone in sixth.

Zorlu Er was the next one to bust and de Rooij was eliminated not much later after losing most of his stack to Owen and the rest to Reichenstein.

In the next hand Owen shoved all-in with Q-J and Malec re-raised all-in with A-8 suited. The board ran out 7-6-2-8-6 and Reichenstein started heads-up with a decent lead.

Uri Reichenstein - 32.000.000
Sebastian Malec - 21.350.000

The heads-up was one of the most exciting battles in recent EPT history, including the final hand.

During Level 37 (300,000/600,000 - 100,000 ante) Malec limped the button with A-3 suited and Reichenstein checked with T-9 (Ten of hearts).

The flop came (Qh)(6h)(Js) and Reichenstein lead for 800,000 only to be faced with a raise to 3,000,000 by Malec. The Eight of hearts on the turn was a huge action card with Reichenstein making the nut straight and Malec making the nut flush.

Reichenstein check/called a 5,000,000 bet and checked the river aswell after the Eight of diamonds peeled off.

Malec put his opponent all-in and Reichenstein called all-in after tanking for several minutes.
