Player gets seated in tournament with 1/5 of an ante, cashes for €9,000

Due to a software glitch, Nwankwokanou was only seated in a tournament when there were just 17 players left from a field of almost 12,000. He spun up his 20,000 chip stack to 30 million chips and managed to finish in fourth for €9,003.

Between September 4 - 14 the French online poker room Winamax organized the Winamax Series XVI online tournament series and their €10 buy-in Sunday Surprise 6-max tournament fittingly brought a big surprise to all players who made the final three tables.

A total of 11,987 players registered for the tournament and there were also 3,811 re-entries, creating a prize pool of €142,182.

However, one of the players who registered wasn't seated due to a software glitch. After a few hours, player Nwankwokanou has probably already given up on the tournament and was composing a message to the support team to receive his buy-in back when he was suddenly seated.

At this stage of the tournament there were only 17 players left and Nwankwokanou's 20,000 starting stack was worth just 1/5 of an ante.

While it might have looked like a hopeless situation, he managed to spin up his stack to 30 million chips and ended up finishing fourth for €9,003.

The room handled the situation well and decided to place everyone in the tournament one place higher on the leaderboard to compensate them for the glitch.
This meant that the fifth place finisher received the prize money reserved for fourth place, the sixth place finisher received the prize money for fifth place and soon.
