Jasper Meijer van Putten wins last ever EPT

After 13 season, the European Poker Tour bids farewell to the poker world. The last event, in one of the most iconic venues, Prague, did not disappoint.

The last Main Event Final Table kicked off on December 19. Six days earlier, it was 1192 entrants with hope, but only the final six played for glory in front of the cameras on the final day. Starting as a chip leader was Hungarian Marton Czuczor, but on his heels, David Peters was eager for another major victory.

Chipcounts at the start of the day:

Jasper Meijer van Putten - 3.815.000
Sam Cohen - 4.520.000
Czuczor Márton - 9.710.000
Marius Gierse - 3.555.000
Sergei Petrushevskii - 5.265.000
David Peters - 8.880.000

It took only three hands until players drew first blood. Czuczor opened with a pair of tens, called by Peters with nines, and Cohen with Q-8. Peters and Cohen remained for the turn 9s which turned out to be a game-changer for Cohen, as she was eliminated after the 7s river failed to improve her hand.

Czuczor and Peter dominated the early part of the final table, and it was the Hungarian who grabbed the chip lead back after eliminating Gierse with nines over fives. The two short stacks, Meijer and Petrushevskii tangled a level later. The Russian took an ill-timed attempt to take down the pot with 4-betting A7. Meijer quickly called with queens and the game was down to 3-handed.

Early attempts at a deal fell through when Peters wanted €27,000 more than ICM, which was declined by Czuczor. This served as a starting point for a gigantic 3-handed section, where it was the Dutchman to take control. Both of his opponents doubled up on him, until the two shortstacks pushed all-in.

After an early scare, the river brought joy to the Hungarian's huge supporting crowd.

After a dinner break, it was Czuczor's turn to shine as he quickly improved to near even. A deal was struck, giving €649,300 to Meijer, while Czuczor banked €630,000. The winner would take the remaining €50,000.

The deal took the pressure of Meijer, who built a lead, and took down the final hand of EPT history in a classic coinflip.
