Doug Polk’s Take on Holz vs Watson Hand at the Aussie Millions

As we reported it, the Australian poker series Aussie Millions went down between January 11th and 30th. The series featured many top players, including Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz and Mike "SirWatts" Watson who faced each other in an interesting hand at the A$100,000 Challange. Doug Polk decided to cover the hand on his YouTube channel.

The A$100,000 Challenge took off with 18 players and a A$1,764,000 prize pool.

At the final table, with 3,000/6,000 blinds Holz was dealt a KdJh on the button, raised to 15K and Watson defended his Qh7s as the big blind. The flop (4h7c9c) gave Watson a middle pair while missing Holz completely, but Watson decided to check and Holz bet 22k, which Watson called. 2s on the turn didn’t change any of the players’ hands, Watson checked, Holz bet and Watson called again. The river, 3s was also a “brick” but it did put the possibility of an A through 5 straight on the table. Watson checked for the third time, then decided not to call Holz’s 163K bluff.

Even though Holz managed to make Watson fold his stronger cards, Watson finished one place before Holz at the tournament, coming in at second and taking A$529,200 in prize money. Nick Petrangelo won the A$882,000 first prize.
