European Poker Tour to return next year

After one year reign of the PokerStars Championship, the site decided to return to the beloved brand from 2018. It seems like finally, the criticism didn't fell on deaf ears.

Players fell in love with and at the EPT

Back in 2016 at European Poker Barcelona, an announcement was made by PokerStars regarding the rebranding of their live tournament schedule. They decided to restructure the regional series' to one global brand, and the PokerStars Championship was born.

However, during the 14 years of the EPT brand, many people fell in love with the series and it managed to build up one of the most prestigious names in the live tournament world. These are the main reasons, many players were upset by the decision and it seems like the site has reconsidered their live tour game, as the household name of PokerStars, Daniel Negreanu announced the upcoming changes of 2018, last week in Prague, during the PokerStars Championship.

Two-times EPT ME champ, Victoria Coren is certainly happy with the decision

EPT is not the only brand to be brought back. Other popular regional series are coming back next year with the likes of Latin America Poker Tour (LAPT) or Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT). "As far as the EPT and these tours back, this is what people wanted, so there was no real good reason to hold that back" - said Negreanu.

They also introduced the biggest ever $25K tournament, kicking off in 2019 - with an added value of $9 million. Players No Limit Hold'em Championship will be held one week prior to PCA. The site will give away 300 'Platinum Package' for the event and in addition to that, they also add $1,000,000 to the first place prize.

Although many peopled hailed the announcement, there were plenty, who had harsh opinion about it. One of the loudest was, Poker Life Podcast host, Joe Ingram, who expressed his thoughts on Twitter.
