Big-name pros fall, while Asian players dominate the opening event in Jeju
Mikita Badziakouski, Ben Lamb and Stephen Chidwick were all amongst the victims of the first day at the HKD$100K Short Deck event.
The 2018 Triton Super High Roller Series in Jeju started with an HKD 100,000 Short Deck Ante Only event. The tournament with the new format generated a total of 19 entries (with 5 re-entries). The 100,000 starting stacks with two extra shells provided an action-heavy day.
Even though the high-roller regulars are considered as the best players in the world, this game is pretty unknown to them. There are plenty of undiscovered strategies for the game, which may give the Macau-based gamblers an advantage, as they've been playing this variant for years now. Chow Hing Yaung of Malaysia's dominated the day, busting several opponents, to end Day 1A with as the chip leader with a huge stack of 1,953,000.
Alan Sass was also pretty active, he bagged 1,879,000 which is good for the second position. The other two players to advance are Gabe Patgorski (962,000) and Kenneth Kee (904,000).
Sass and Patgorski both have some experience with the game. The former got 7th in the inaugural short deck event in Montenegro, while the latter finished 3rd.
Those who didn't survive the day have another to shot to scoop the tournament as Day 1B is open for them as well. Many of the top pros are about to land in Jeju, so the excitement is guaranteed for the upcoming days.
