WPTDeepStacks Marrakech Main Event underway, Sow amongst the biggest stacks
The field of the first starting day got down to 53 from the original 163.
Part of the prestigious Es Saadi Resort, Casino de Marrakech is hosting the WPTDeepstack Marrakech Main Event for the fifth time in a row and the players seem to like it as 163 of them gathered for Day1A of the Dh 13,200 (~€1,200) tournament.
The action was pretty heavy, more than two third of the original field busted, with only 53 of them returning for Day2. The current chip leader is Yves Rolland, who accumulated 212,000 chips. In case of a deep run, the young player from France can book his biggest ever score, considering his current record is $11,785.
Rolland is followed by 3 fellow Frenchmen and a Moroccan player, Said Haho. The current top five is the following:
Position | Player | Country | Chip Count |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Yves Rolland | France | 212,000 |
2 | Boubekeur Benhalima | France | 200,000 |
3 | Jim Azazgour | France | 190,500 |
4 | Kalidou Sow | France | 190,000 |
5 | Said Haho | Marocco | 178,000 |
The biggest name in the remaining field is certainly Kalidou Sow. The 37-year-old French grinder gained notoriety when he managed to take down three major tournaments in a span of 2 months. He won the €5,300 No Limit Hold'em - Pokestars Championship Main Event for €675,00, went on to triumph in the £990 No Limit Hold'em - PSF Main Event for £121,803 , and then took down the €1,500 No Limit Hold'em - High Roller (Event #15) for a cool €100,000.
Sow is looking to catch another title
Day2 will start today at 1 p.m. local time, with twelve 40-minute levels. Reentry is possible until the start of level 10. The tournament will certainly attract many more players, with some big names expected to jump into the action. Stay tuned for the updates!
