Update on the EPT Berlin Casino Robbery

In a recent post, we looked at the arrest by the German police of the thieves and mastermind behind the EPT Berlin robbery. With all suspects now in custody, the trial of four young men has begun yesterday in Berlin State Court. The 31-year old person who was behind the whole operation and masterminded the raid, has been charged separately and is set to go on trial later this year.

Three out of the four accused suspects have reportedly broken their silence admitting to their involvement in the crime, but have still not given up the location of the stolen money.

In Court they heard how the bandits originally planned to steal the money by knocking it off the guards at the end of the day as they carried it out. But the Court was then told that the original plans didn’t go ahead and were altered because of the pressure made by the leader to strike earlier.

The Court spokeswoman Petra Carl disclosed if convicted the 21-year-old man could face up to 15 years in prison for his participation in the crime. The sentences for the three remaining men who are of 20 years of age would be solely dependent on whether the judge tries them as juveniles or as adults.
