Nevada and Delaware to Launch Common Market this Summer

While originally planned for winter 2014, it appears Nevada and Delaware players will be able to play against each other as early as this summer.

Back in February [4], Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and Delaware Governor Jack Markell signed an agreement that made poker history: the Multi State Internet Gaming allows for the pooling of player liquidity for online poker operators licensed in both regulated states. Additionally, other states are allowed to join, which is an excellent opportunity for a newly regulated market to achieve proper liquidity as quickly as possible. For smaller state, the cooperation may prove essential to survive.

“If there are states that don’t have as sophisticated a regulatory structure as we have, that’s something we can offer. If your state doesn’t have the infrastructure, use our capabilities,” Governor Sandoval told Las Vegas Review Journal.

Originally, the unified market would have launched winter 2014/2015 but the implementation of the plans appear to proceed faster than expected. Recently, the two governors have announced that players in their respective states can expect to be able to play against each other as early as this summer.

In addition to Delaware and Nevada, New Jersey is offering legal online poker to its citizens within the USA, and the latter state boasts more significant player liquidity than the agreed parties. Whether as a result of this or not, New Jersey has so far shown no intention of joining Multi State Internet Gaming and it remains to be seen whether major states to legalise online poker are to open up for pooling or seek to first manage on their own.
