After a calm, almost dull February, the online high stakes cash game tables are starting to see some major action this month. Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom won $1.6 million over the weekend and Gus Hansen has been up $900,000 in the last 24 hours.

Online high stakes cash games have been gaining momentum this month after barely any action in February. Right after the Green Friday, as most US pros got back their bankrolls stuck on their Full Tilt Poker accounts, action resumed with players aiming to profit from the newly regained funds, including online highs takes money list 2010 leader Daniel ‘jungleman12’ Cates. The former NLHE specialist had been working hard on his deuce game and owned the 2-7 Triple Draw tables in his recent session as a result, winning $1,369,799 in the month so far in 10,939 hands.
However, this may change any minute now with the volume of the sessions constantly increasing: on 14 March, Phil ‘OMGClayAiken’ Galfond became the most successful player of the day with $193,184 in profits and then Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom started winning on the day after. The Swede booked $673,735 on Saturday and another $931,423 on Sunday, depriving Galfond of his money most of all, claiming $541,598 and $884,861 from him on the two days, respectively. The fly in Blom’s soup is the fact that he remains close to breakeven in March, despite his two major scores.
On Monday, it was Gus Hansen’s turn again after his excellent sessions last week [4]: at the time of writing this article, the Dane is still engaged in a game of $2,000/$4,000 2-7 Triple Draw against last year’s high stakes money list leader Niklas ‘ragen70’ Heinecker.
At the moment, Gus Hansen is up $918,658, while the biggest loser of the day is ‘Isildur1’ with -$447,000.
Interestingly enough, the volume of the action has been benefitting no one as much as Cates: with the $1,369,799 in profits, he has a confident lead over ‘SanIker’ and his $222,144, the second largest sum this month. The biggest loser in March is currently ‘OMGClayAiken’ with -$1,197,094, although the results of the last 24 hours are not yet included in the monthly statistics.
With almost two weeks still to go in March, it is worth paying attention to the online high stakes tables, as the best pros seem hell-bent on scoring big. It remains to be seen whether ‘jungleman12’ is able to keep building his roll as well as if Gus Hansen can finally start to come back.
