Alex Dreyfus talks about the Global Poker League

Alex Dreyfus, leader of the Global Poker Index (GPI) has announced that the "craziest and most ambitious" poker project in the past few years, the Global Poker League will launch in 2015.

Not every detail has been worked out yet, but Dreyfus gave some information regarding the League. He also stated that the Global Poker Masters team competition will return in 2016, they are currently negotiating with three possible venues.

  • the schedule will be released in Q3 of 2015
  • there are going to be 8 teams
  • teams members will be determined in a draft
  • the draft will most likely take place during the WSOP
  • each team will consist of 7 players
  • three players from each team will qualify from the GPI 300/500 rankings
  • the rest of the team members will consist of 2 "wild cards" and 2 satellite qualifiers
  • the GPI will launch in August/September and will run for 10 weeks
  • teams will take part in live and online events
  • according to Dreyfus, the GPI is investing $5 million into the project
  • the event will be live streamed
