Cristiano Ronaldo joins Team PokerStars

Less than 3 weeks ago PokerStars signed FC Barcelona's star striker Neymar and he is now joined in Team PokerStars SportStars by Real Madrid's three-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

As we have previously reported, on May 7 PokerStars announced the signing of Neymar, the 23-year old star striker of FC Barcelona and the Brazil national team.

Rumors about another football player joining Team PokerStars SportStars have also surfaced, and on May 27, PokerStars announced that Cristiano Ronaldo has also been signed by the room.

"I like playing for winning teams, and PokerStars is the perfect partner for me. As a brand, it is always looking at ways to improve and stay ahead of the curve, and as an athlete that is something I truly respect. I started playing poker a few years ago, and I love the competition, strategy and fun. I'm looking forward to taking my game to the online and live poker tables and meeting my fans head to head. Although football is my world, poker has always been my game. I'm very excited to join the team."

The 30-year old Portuguese star is considered by many to be the best player in the world. He has three English Premier League titles, a Spanish championship (La Liga) title and is one of the most accomplished players in history. This year he has played 54 games for Real Madrid in which he scored 61 goals and gave 22 assists. He has played 119 games for the Portuguese national team, scoring 52 goals.

Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo are two of the most popular athletes in the world with huge fan bases (Ronaldo has 103 million followers on Facebook), which could result in a big number of new players on PokerStars, where Ronaldo will be playing under the C.Ronaldo nickname.
