Jason Mercier wins second WSOP bracelet in one week

Mercier is absolutely crushing this year's World Series, after his win in the $10,000 NL 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship he quickly registered and eventually finished second in the $10,000 Seven Card Razz Championship and two days later he won the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship for $422,874. Mercier needs one more bracelet to win the huge, $1,800,000 bracelet bet he made with Vanessa Selbst.

Just six days ago, we wrote an article about Jason Mercier's win in the $10k NL 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship and his huge bracelet with Vanessa Selbst and since then, the American pro racked up a second place finish and a win in two tough events.

After winning his first bracelet of the summer, Mercier immediately late registered for the $10,000 Razz Championship where he finished runner-up to Ray Dehkharghani for $168,936.

Mercier then immediately jumped into the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship, considered to be one of the toughest tournament in the WSOP schedule.

Mercier started the final day of the tournament as the chipleader, but he had tough competition to overcome, as James "Andy McLEOD" Obst, Bryn Kenney, Nick Shulman, Randy Ohel and Yuval Bronshtein were all in the hunt for the bracelet.

The first elimination of the day was Ron Ware, he was soon followed by Jose-Paz Gutierrez, Viacheslav Zhukov and Douglas Lorgeree. The unofficial final table was set with the elimination of Randy Ohel.

1. seat: Bryn Kenney - 720,000
2. seat: Adam Friedman - 460,000
3. seat: Yuval Bronshtein - 300,000
4. seat: Jesse Martin - 1,700,000
5. seat: John Monnette - 220,000
6. seat: James Obst - 710,000
7. sat: Jason Mercier - 2,200,000
8. seat: Nick Schulman - 1,700,000
9. seat: Mikhail Semin - 335,000

The official final table started with the elimination of John Monnette, he got his stack in in a Limit Hold'em hand with A-Q on a J-T-4 flop, unfortunately for him his opponent, Jesse Martin had J-T and Monnette couldn't improve on the turn or river.

Bryn Kenney finished in 8th place after losing his stack in a Razz hand and Yuval Bronshtein busted not much later in a Limit Hold'em hand. Jesse Martin finished in 6th (Omaha Hi-Lo), Mikhail Semin in 5th (Seven Card Stud) and Adam Friedman finished in 4th.

The heads-up was set with the elimination of Nick Shulman, he lost his stack in a Seven Card Stud hand.

The two remaining players started the battle on Level 25, which had the following blind structure:

Flop games: 60,000 small blind/bring-in, 120,000 big blind/completion, 120,000/240,000 limit
Stud games: 20,000 ante, 30,000 bring-in, 120,000 big blind/completion, 120,000/240,000 limit

James Obst - 6,230,000
Jason Mercier - 2,325,000

Although Obst started with a significant lead, Mercier won a big Omaha Hi-Lo and a big Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo pot and took over the lead in a Limit Hold'em hand.
Obst raised the button and Mercier called, then check/raised the 7-3-2 flop.

He continued to bet on the 5 turn and the 5 river and Obst called him down. Mercier showed 5-2 for a full house and Obst mucked.
Mercier continued to increase his lead, by the time of the last hand Obst had just one big bet in chips.

Obst got in his final chips with Q-J, Mercier called with 5-3 and the board ran out T-4-2-A-2, making Mercier a straight.

By taking down the event, Mercier took a huge step in winning the $1.8 million bet against Vanessa Selbst, he needs one more bracelet to win one of the biggest bracelet bets ever made.
