Steve O'Dwyer wins 2014 ACOP Super High Roller

Steve O'Dwyer had his biggest live tournament score ever after defeating a star-studded final table that included Joseph Cheong, Ryan Fee and Daniel Colman.

The HK$500,000 (~US$65,000) buy-in Super High Roller started this Saturday at PokerStars' Asia tournament series, the Asia Championship of Poker. 2010 WSOP Main Event third place finisher Joseph Cheong was in the chiplead, but he had tough competition to face as Daniel Colman, Steve O'Dwyer, Davidi Kitai were still in the field.

The first player to bust was Davidi Kitai, he jammed his short stack with K-8, got called by Daniel Colman's QJ, and busted after the board ran out 9-T-K-6-9.

Colman busted soon after, he shoved with A-K suited, only to run into Steve O'Dwyer's AA. Of course Colman has no reason to be sad, this is pretty much the first live tournament that he entered and didn't win this year.

The next player to bust was Kitson Kho, he went all-in with AT but called by Pratyush Buddiga's AK and failed to improve.

Cheong couldn't capitalize on his chiplead, he lost a couple of pots then lost a coinflip with AJ against Buddiga's 55 to bust out.

The next player out was Connor Drinan, he lost a flip with A-9 against Ryan Fee's 7-7, then put in his final chips with Q-8, which was called by both O'Dwyer as well as Buddiga. O'Dwyer improved to a flush with his 53 of diamonds and Drinan was out in fourth.

Buddiga busted just a couple of hands later, he shoved with K2s from the small blind, O'Dwyer called him with K7 from the big blind and Buddiga failed to improve.

It was Buddiga's biggest live score so far, the $845,000 he earend for 3rd place is almost $100,000 more than his previous biggest score, which was an 8th place finish in the GuangDong Asia Millions in 2013 in Macau. For that, he received $772,000, and it's undeniable that the young pro is doing very well in Macau any time he shows up.

The heads-up started with O'Dwyer in the lead, he had 36 million chips while Ryan Fee was playing a 15 million stack.

Fee managed to close the gap, but O'Dwyer made a big hero call to win the title.

On the 300,000/600,000/50,000 ante level, Fee raised to 1.3 million from a 13 million stack, and O'Dwyer called. On the flop of Q-9-7 (two hearts), O'Dwyer check-called a 1.6 million bet from Fee, then check-called on the 3 of hearts turn again. The river came the 5 of hearts, putting a four-flush on board. O'Dwyer checked for a third time, and Fee shoved all-in for 10 million.

O'Dwyer went deep in to the tank, but finally convinced himself to make the call. Fee showed down 65 for just a rivered pair of fives, while O'Dwyer had an 8-high flush.

O'Dwyer had the biggest live score of his career, he won $1.8 million, surpassing his previous best score of $1.6 million which he got for winning the EPT Grand Final.
