Steven Segal jumps on the poker movie bandwagon with his own, Gutshot Straight

The plot of the story is based on an unpaid poker debt, but the movie is also going to have everything that you can expect from a Steven Segal movie - fights, guns and attractive women.

The protagonist, Jack Daniel (played by George Eads) has trouble with the mob because of a poker debt and...well, that's the only thing we know about the plot, but the fact that both Steven Segal and ex-football hooligan Vinnie Jones are part of the cast promises a lot of violence and fistfights.

If you are looking forward to movies that focus on poker more, you are going to have a lot of options in the following years, including a sequel for legendary poker movie Rounders. The Weinstein Company has already started to work on the movie, which will start out in Paris and will be a much more international story than the first part.

Another promising project is "Whales", a series produced by Entourage and Weeds writer Matt Salsberg. The series will be about a group of players in their twenties who start to travel the high stakes circuit, and Salsberg says it's going to be a "realistic comedy", much like Entourage.

There is also a movie being made about the life of Mike "The Mouth" Matusow. Mike is definitely an interesting character, his table talk, his run-ins with the law, his depression and his poker adventures offer a great source material to be turned into a movie.

These movies could definitely restore the public's interest in poker, and hopefully it will make them forget movies like Lucky You and Runner Runner.
