WSOP 2015 - John Gorsuch leads Main Event after Day 1C

Day 1C, the final starting day of the 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event kicked off on Tuesday with a total of 3,963 players, bringing the total number of entrants to 6,420. This created a prizepool of $60,348,000, there are 1,000 paying spots, a mincash is worth $15,000 while the champion will take home $7,680,021. Over the three starting days, 4,389 players advanced to Day 2, the biggest stack belongs to John Gorsuch, but plenty of past champions and big names also advanced, including Ryan Riess, Jamie Gold, Joe Hachem, Peter Eastgate, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Allen Cunningham and Michael ''The Grinder'' Mizrachi.

After a rather slow Day 1A and Day 1B many players predicted that this years WSOP Main Event will be significantly smaller than last years, but a big wave of players pushed the total number of players to 6,420, which is only 4% smaller than last year. In 2015 the WSOP changed several tournament structures which resulted in deeper stacks and longer play. The attendance for these tournaments was huge, so it's not surprising to see the Main Event numbers drop a little, many small time players decided to play events like The Millionaire Maker, The Colossus or the Extended Play No Limit Hold'em event instead of the Main Event.

Day 1C started with the defending champion, Martin Jacobson's ''Shuffle Up and Deal!'' announcment. Jacobson is not going back-to-back, he was eliminated shortly after the dinner break.

Phil Hellmuth joined the tournament during the dinner break and was sat at a table that included Phil Ivey, Melanie Weisner and Keith Lehr. Hellmuth tangled several times with Ivey, doubling him up in the process, but the Poker Brat still bagged a healthy stack of 79,725. Joe Hachem, who won the event 10 years ago also advanced with 63,500 chips, and so did 2013 champ Ryan Riess (108,800) and 2006 champ Jamie Gold (81,000).

Former champions Joe Cada, Greg Merson and Jerry Yang were not so lucky, and Patrik Antonius, Jimmy Fricke and Jennifer Harman were also eliminated.

Several celebrities also showed up for the Main Event, including Ray Romano, Brad Garrett (both of them advanced) and Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul. Paul failed to advance to Day 2 and join a player called Walter White (who advanced with 29,975 chips) and Phoenix Suns player Earl Barron was also eliminated.

On Wednesday players from Day 1A and Day 1B will continue on Day 2AB, while the Day 1C players who bagged a stack will continue play on Thursday. On Friday the whole field will continue as one and aim for the paying spots.
