The Hendon Mob Acquired by GPI

One of the most controversial announcements this week was the Global Poker Index acquiring legendary UK online poker database, The Hendon Mob. The site is undoubtedly a market leader in providing live tournament poker information, not to mention its role as the number one online poker community in the UK.

Earlier this week, the Global Poker Index (GPI) announced the acquisition of The Hendon Mob, Ltd. UK, the company behind the renowned live poker tournament database TheHendonMob.com. The site is also home to the largest online poker community of the United Kingdom. Providing essential and up-to-date information to poker news websites worldwide, the significance of the role The Hendon Mob plays in the industry is hard to overestimate.

Certainly, their expertise and resources of The Hendon Mob is a powerful asset to GPI, which also runs its own, extensive database to be able to rank the top players worldwide. The GPI press release quotes CEO Alexandre Dreyfus saying:

“We are very excited and extremely proud to count The Hendon Mob as part of the Global Poker Index family. The Hendon Mob poker database is the best in the world, without a doubt. We plan to support and grow this tremendous asset. The Hendon Mob and the Global Poker Index are a natural fit to put together. As a combined company, they truly form an authoritative hub for all poker players, particularly those who compete in live events.”

The same press release states that The Hendon Mob will continue to operate as usual – even though forum members tend to expect otherwise – with the GPI “investing and developing The Hendon Mob website (...), as well as maintaining and investing in the current operational team”. There are plans to expand the range of monitored tournaments and to improve the speed of reporting. They also want to grow the community of the site, trying to promote new registrations.

“With the expertise, resources and commitment of the Global Poker Index, the legacy of The Hendon Mob is safe and its future is secure. We are excited about the upcoming developments from which everyone in poker will benefit, and we will continue to give our enthusiastic support to the Global Poker Index and Hendon Mob project,” co-founder Barny Boatman stated.

Another of the four founders, Joe Beevers added on The Hendon Mob forum itself that “This announcement is really good news for thehendonmob.com and the database. The resources and expertise as well as the team that GPI has, led by Alex Dreyfus, will make the database so much better in the coming months. For now, basically everything is the same as before except its all going to get much better. We are all working closely with Alex to make sure this is the case.”
