WSOP 2014 Event #36 - Wolansky Wins NL 2-7 Draw Lowball

Day 1 of WSOP Event #36 $1,500 No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball saw 241 entrants and a prize pool of $325,350. The 28 ITM finishes were reached on Day 2, where 38 players returned.

Among the players finishing in the money, one will find Max Pescatori (27th, $2,837), Chino Rheem (25th, $2,837), Mike Leah (22th, $2,837), John Racener (21st, $3,471), Eli Elezra (19th, $3,471), Phil Hellmuth (18th, $3,471), Brian Rast (16th, $3,471), as well as Ali Eslami (11th, $5,371), among others.

After the elimination of Scott Abrams and Adam Crawford on Level 17 (1,000/2,000/4,000), the Final Table seats were drawn as follows:

Still on Day 2, Scott Bohlman was first eliminated before players retired to rest.

On Day 3, play resumed and the field reached Level 18 (1,500/3,000/6,000) in just a couple of minutes. Soon, Samuel Touil would be eliminated by Joseph Cheong in 6th place, and then Orjan Skommo and Christopher Mecklin followed.

The heads-up was set on Level 19 (2,000/4,000/8,000), when German national soccer team striker Max Kruse shoved in the very first hand of the level from the SB to be called by Cheong from the BB. The latter stood pat with T-9-6-5-2 and Kruse squeezed a J to his 7-6-4-3, getting eliminated in 3rd.

Wolansky managed to come back and the tournament was over on the same level: in the last hand, Cheong called all-in for 215,000 in total on Wolansky’s 3-bet shove. The latter drew one, Cheong stood pat with T-7-6-3-2 and then Wolansky showed 9-8-7-5-2 for a winning low.

Steven Wolansky one his first ever career bracelet, while Cheong booked his third WSOP runner-up finish.
