Olivier Busquet wins EPT Barcelona Super High Roller for €900,000

Olivier Busquet defeated his former student, Daniel Colman in heads-up play to win the EPT Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller and €900,000

The final table of the EPT Super High Roller was an exciting one, we witnessed several memorable hands, but in the end no one could stop Olivier Busquet, who finally managed to win a major EPT title after coming second twice in the EPT Campione and the EPT Grand Final High Roller.

Young Italian pro Mustapha Kanit was the first player to be eliminated, his AQ couldn't hold up against Sven Reichardts A8.

In the 36th hand of the final, Busquet shoved all-in with A2 over a raise from Reichardt, who snapcalled with KK. After the K88 flop, Busquet had a 0.4% chance to win, but he managed to catch an Ace on the turn and an Ace on the river to miraculously double up.

Busquet was absolutely steamrolling the final table after this, he busted Dan Shak with Aces, when the businessman shoved 5bet allin with A8, then he busted Morten Klein with Aces when the Norwegian player went all in with AQ.

The 6th place finisher was Reichardt, his pokcet tens couldn't improve against Daniel Colman's pocket kings. 5th place finisher was Sam Trickett, he jammed all-in with KQ after a raise and a call, only to run into Colman's AK.

Colman busted yet another player after this, his J9 improved to a pair of nines on the river against Scott Seiver's AQ.

Russian player Vladimir Troyanovskiy finished in 3rd place after calling allin with A8 and not improving against Busquet's 55.

Heads up play was really interesting, not just because Colman and Busquet are two of the best heads-up players in the world, but also because Colman used to be a student of Busquet, and they have remained very good friends ever since. They decided to make a deal at the beginning of heads-up play, but played on for the title, the trophy, and the commemorative EPT watch.

Colman was trying to go for his third big buy-in tournament win in a row, after winning the €100,000 EPT Grand Final Super High Roller (€1.53 million) and the Big One for One Drop ($15.3 million), while Busquet was trying to win his first major EPT title, after finishing second twice.

Colman at the EPT Grand Final

Heads-up play was exciting, but Busquet managed to pull away with two big pots, first he bluffed all-in with a busted flush draw (54 of diamonds) on a board of T3J8A, making Colman lay down KJ.

A couple hands later Colman raised and bet 3 times with 83 on a board of 885AQ (3 diamonds), but eventually folded when Busquet check/raised all-in on the river with his Q8.

After this Colman was shortstacked and failed to climb back, in the final hand his AK couldn't hold up against Busquet's QJ in a preflop allin.
