Jonathan Duhamel looking for his second bracelet in Australia
Jonathan Duhamel won the 2010 World Series of Poker, but has not been able to win a second bracelet since. The Canadian poker pro recently gave a short interview where he talks about hockey, why he chose the WSOP APAC over EPT London, and about playing in Macau.
Duhamel first talks about his plan to travel to Macau for the 2014 APPT Asia Championship of Poker. He is taking a 16,000km detour though, because he first wants to travel back to Canada after the WSOP APAC. The reason?
"I'm missing hockey so badly right now. I'm going home for a week or so and then I'm flying to Macau."
This is even more surprising, considering Jonathan's favorite place on earth is Australia, and he is always trying to "find an excuse to come down under."
Duhamel considered going to EPT London, but decided that the small fields in Australia give him a good chance of winning a second bracelet to go with his 2010 WSOP bracelet.
He's not going to miss the Asia Championship though, he believes the event is going to be huge.
"There are going to be so many people. It's going to be a lot of fun. It's a lot of traveling for me but at least I have a good reason. It's always fun to play with the guys from Macau. They play somewhat differently. There's good action. It's big buy-ins too, so it will be cool."
The ultra-high stakes cash game battles in Macau were discovered a couple of years ago during the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, and the players who joined the game (Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, John Juanda etc.) have pretty much just left their stacks in the tournament to blind out once they found out about the huge games filled with loose Chinese businessmen.
Plenty of high stakes pros are expected to show up for the huge games that are expected to run once again, but there will be $100,000 HKD, $250,000 HKD, and a $500,000 HKD (roughly $65,000) High Roller tournament aswell, so besides the cash game players, the best tournament players in the world are expected to show up aswell.
