REG charity raises $500,000 in 2014, Martin Jacobson donates $250,000

Raising for Effective Giving (REG) is a charity that was co-founded by poker pros Igor Kurganov, Philipp Gruissem and Liv Boeree and one that is very rapidly expanding. The charity reported donations of over $500,000 since its launch in July 2014 with a huge, $250,000 donation coming from 2014 WSOP Main Event champ Martin Jacobson.

The company recently evaulated their fourth quarter of 2014 and stated that their success can be attributed to the large number of new members and because people have donated more at the end of the year, but that the biggest reason was Martin Jacobson's $250,000 donation.

Jacobson is the 2014 WSOP Main Event champion (he was already sporting a REG patch at the final table) and has donated 2.5% of his Main Event winnings ($10 million).

Part of his donation will be distributed amongst all the REG charities but a certain sum will go directly to animal welfare charities in line with Jacobson's request.
