Maxime Heroux is the 2017 World Poker Tour Montreal Main Event Champion

Maxime Heroux has won the 2017 World Poker Tour Montreal $3,850 CAD No-Limit Hold'em Main Event at Playground Poker Club, in his hometown, Montreal.

WPT Montreal 2017 was running between October 29th - November 16th. The festival offered tournaments with buy-ins ranging from C$80 to C$10,300. The C$3,850 Main Event started on last Friday. More than 600 hundred players entered the tournament increasing the guaranteed prize pool of C$2,000,000 to C$2,057,370($1,610,214 USD) with C$403,570($311,717 USD) awarded for the eventual winner. 76 of them reached the money locking up at least C$5,090. Several well known professionals had hopes for a big score such as Kevin MacPhee (63rd; C$6,920) who had gotten really close to become a two time WSOPE Main Event champion last week or three time bracelet winner Michael Mizrachi (41st; C$9,170).

The biggest name on the final table was, 2016 Card Player Player of the Year award winner David Peters, who had great chance for another victory, having the second biggest stack with only six players left. However he quickly lost most of his chips losing two all-in pots within the first three orbits. Peters was eliminated when his couldn't manage to beat the of Patrick Quinn's. The high roller regular earned $60,266 USD for finishing 6th.

The next two players to bust were Eric Afriat (5th; $73,664 USD) and Brendan Baksh (4th; $96,017 USD). Both of them were eliminated by Derek Wolters, who climbed to second place in chips, when the following hand happened. With blinds of 75,000/150,000/25,000 Quinn raised to 350,000 from the button, Heroux called and Wolters decided to re-raise to 1.2 million from the big blind. Original raiser Quinn folded, but Heroux decided to go all-in for 7.5 million. Wolters made the call with his while Heroux turned up .
