Lee Jones, former senior manager of PokerStars as well as CardRunners, signed as card room manager for Cake Poker in May, 2009. He was behind the Gold Chip and the Gold Card programs, among other things; as of Tuesday, however, he is no longer member of the Cake Poker team.

“I have resigned my position at Cake Poker … Their management has made some strategic decisions with which I’m not comfortable,” Jones posted on 2+2. Later, he added in an interview that “I have a couple of irons in the fire. I certainly have every intention of staying in the poker business, so I’ll have to see what pans out.”

Jones is accompanied by tournament director Serge Ravitch in leaving Cake; after his announcement on Tuesday, Ravitch soon followed suit: “It sincerely pains me to say that, for the same reasons, I am also no longer affiliated with Cake in any way. I wish them the best of luck going forward,” he posted.

What exactly the “strategic decisions” were behind the two of them leaving the network remains unknown. Losing Jones, however, might hit Cake particularly hard, given that the author of the popular book "Winning Low Limit Hold’em" is among the most recognised faces in the industry. His top achievements include PokerStars’ leading role in the market; in addition, many consider PS’ being easily the most user-friendly of all the result of Jones’ work.
