In late September, Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan tweeted that he had booked a record loss in one of his cash game sessions in Macau.

“In taiwan for the 1st time ever... Not leaving the airport tho. Maybe next trip. Had my biggest loss ever yesterday,” he posted a day after he left the peninsula. Even though he did not specify the amount, he was sure to had lost over $2 million. This had been his biggest recorded loss to that point, losing the sum back in 2009 in the highest stakes games at Full Tilt Poker to a newly emerging Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom.

CardPlayer could not rest until finding out the exact sum and they did their research to uncover the truth about Dwan’s losses. They eventually contacted a player who was there at the StarWorld and could provide an account of the session. Asking to preserve his anonymity, the player told the story of a shorthanded game, in which ‘durrrr’ played for almost 24 hours and lost a total of over $4 million. The exact stakes still remain unknown but it seems sure that, at some point, each and every pot was over $40,000 in a three hours period.

Apparently, the loss did not deliver a fatal blow to the bankroll of the US pro, who was next seen playing in Macau in early October. The former Portuguese colony is clearly the largest live high stakes poker hub around today with a local gambling market growing at an excessive rate; this August, incomes were 17.6% higher than in last year and experts expect a record rise in October as well.
