David 'Doc' Sands

‘Doc’ Sands is one of the most renowned figures of MTT poker today: under his ‘SexSeen’ screen name at PokerStars, he has won a lifetime total of $1,375,478 and another $1,277,100 at Full Tilt Poker as ‘Doc Sands’. At the latter room, he has booked his greatest online results, including the FTOPS, $1k Monday and Sunday Mulligan championship titles. His lifetime online winnings total at $3,044,125.

In addition to being the best online MTT player of 2010, Sands has also achieved remarkable results in live events, including a 2nd finish in the PCA 2013 $100,000 Super High Roller for $1,259,320 and winning the WPT World Championship $100,000 Super High Roller for $1,023,750. In live tournaments, he has earned a total of $5,738,008.

Despite his superb performance, he has barely played in the second half of 2013 and has entered no tournaments so far in 2014. As a result, rumour soon started to spread that he had retired from poker; recently, it has been confirmed, as Doyle Brunson tweeted Sands as follows:

“There is a rumor going around that you are retiring from poker. Surely it's not true?”

“I am, to an extent.  I took a job at hedge fund - learning how to place some bigger bets ;)” he replied.

A lot of players lament that one of the best talents is leaving the game, although even more are happy for him. The US player is a role model to many, reassuring them that the possibility of moving on, improving and living a successful life beyond poker does exist.
