 Global Poker Index

In 2011, Federated Sports & Gaming (FS+G) introduced the Global Poker Index (GPI) to determine on a mathematical basis a top list of poker players in a given period, taking tournament field size, buy-ins and individual results into consideration. The calculations of the GPI are widely considered the best and most realistic currently available, which rendered the GPI Player of the Year one of the most prestigious awards in the live poker community.

In addition to its regular annual list, a GPI Player of the Decade list has also been published. This is meant to determine who the best live poker players of the past decade have been. The name of the 9th finisher on the list was published on 30 December: Phil Ivey made the list with 5,422 points. In the next days, top finishers have been introduced two by two. As of 3 January, the list goes as follows:

3rd: Michael Mizrachi – 6,553 points
4th: Barry Greenstein – 6,457
5th: John Juanda – 6,261
6th: Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier – 5,778
7th: Shannon Shorr – 5,578
8th: JC Tran – 5,569
9th: Phil Ivey – 5,422

3rd finisher Michael Mizrachi started playing live in 2004, which means all his registered results come from the past ten years. ‘The Grinder’ has won three WSOP bracelets, two WPT titles and a total of 23 tournaments for $14,537,352 in career prize money during the time.

The names of the second and first finishers are expected to be published on Friday, 4 January. Who do you think they will be?
