Phil Laak is Winner of Event 1 at WSOPE

The first event came to its end at the WSOPE at the third day, where Phil Laak (the one that recently broke a few bones at a horrific ATV accident I informed you about) have won his first WSOP bracelet.

Laak is one of the poker players who are talked about as the most talented, who do not yet possess a bracelet. He is now out of the league, Phil Laak now has his first WSOP bracelet, which he won on his girlfriend's, Jennifer Tilly's birthday, which, as he comments "just makes it that much more sweet! Holla!”

He went heads-up against Andrew Pantling a few times during the game, and they also met at the final table, where they fought the final heads-up. It took Laak 3 hours to finish him, winning Ł170,802 and the gold WSOPE bracelet.

The final hand came when Pantling raised from the button and Laak went all in with his entire stack. Pantling called with all his chips and showed Ah-9h to lead over Laak's Kd-5c. The flop fell 7h-4h-4c, which was a flush draw for Pantling and gave him a lot of hope. The turn came 5d, with which Laak took the lead. The final card was a Qc, with which Pantling missed his flush, and Laak won the WSOP bracelet with 2 pairs.

When asked how was able to finally make it to the first place, he said his endurance poker record (which he set this July by playing poker for 115 hours) helped him a lot in his success. He said, it made him a better player, and that it rewired him from the inside, and thanks to this he is a much happier man, according to him: "The food tastes better, I feel better, heck, even the sex is better. It’s all better!"
