Scotty Nguyen and Tom McEvoy Inducted into Poker Hall of Fame

Last weekend, Caesars Entertainment officially announced that two WSOP Main Event champions would be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame this year.

This summer, Caesars Entertainment launched the open vote to determine this year’s inductees to the Poker hall of Fame. The list of players with the most votes got published in September; the impressive set of names is the following: Chris Bjorin, Humberto Brenes, David Chiu, Thor Hansen, Jennifer Harman, Mike Matusow, Tom McEvoy, Carlos Mortensen, Scotty Nguyen and Huck Seed. Of the ten players, living members of the PHoF, together with select representatives of the industry media, got to pick the ones who would be inducted this year.

Last weekend, Caesars Entertainment officially announced their choices: the 2013 members of the PHoF are Scotty Nguyen and Tom McEvoy.

McEvoy had previously been considered a major favourite, therefore his acceptance in the Hall of Fame comes as little surprise. The 68 years old player is a real ambassador of the game both at the felt and beyond. The four times WSOP champion won the 1983 Main Event and boasts a total of $2,956,567 in lifetime winnings. He is the author of several successful poker strategy books and countless articles in poker magazines. He spearheaded the fight to ban smoking from card rooms.

Nguyen, on the other hand, is a much more ambiguous person to be inducted. He has a respectable record of five WSOP titles, including a Main Even victory from 1998, a WPT title and $11,734,812 in winnings. However, his behaviour at the tables tends to leave much to be desired. His most memorable scandal was his drunken victory in the WSOP $50,000 HORSE championship.

The induction ceremony is held on 3 November, during the WSOP Main Event Final Table festival.
