Unibet Aims at Top 10 of Poker Traffic World Rankings
Unibet has recently gained full independence and launched its standalone client. There are 500 cash game players active at the room on average, which qualifies the operator as the 11th largest as regards the .com market rooms and networks, mere weeks into its launch.
Last December, Unibet announced that they would leave the Microgaming (MPN) network and migrate to their own platform. MPN would be available to players until March 2014, when the shift to the standalone client would be completed.
The main questions have ever since been whether the new Unibet Poker, aiming to favour recreational players above all, would be competitive on the market, able to preserve its player liquidity and would the novelties attract recreational players and perhaps keep regulars interested at the same time. It is still too early to try to give answers; however, barely two weeks into the life of the new client and just after the final break-up with Microgaming, the new Unibet does indeed seem a serious competitor.
While the room has banned itself from tracking sites, which means PokerScout is unable to monitor its traffic, yesterday it issued its own report, showing off an average cash game traffic of 500 players. Arguably, the report has been issued to present the much more significant number than previously expected, launching the new Unibet to as high as 11th on the world poker traffic rankings in terms of the .com market sites. In this respect, the room already outperforms the Ongame network and PKR and come close to The Hive and Dollaro networks, in 10th and 9th places, respectively. In fact, ex-partner network MPN is not that far down the road with 1,100 cash game players on a 7-day average, ranking 8th.
Since the launch of the new client, player numbers at Unibet has been constantly on the rise: after the average traffic of 250-300 cash game players of the first week, the second saw almost twice that number.
Of course, the launch promotions may well have a lot to do with the rising numbers: among others, Unibet offers a €500 first deposit bonus to players, including those who had registered prior to the launch of the standalone client. To Rakerace.com players, the room even provides a €3,000 exclusive cash race, running 1-31 March. It remains to be seen how many players the room can keep after the initial rush, but we will keep our fingers crossed.
