WSOP Makes its Way to South Africa

Poker has undoubtedly grown in popularity in the past half decade, and Harrah’s, owner of the WSOP series, announced to hold two non-bracelet events this fall in South Africa. WSOP organizers have decided to expand their championship series to South Africa, organizing a WSOP Circuit Event with gold rings on offer instead of bracelets. The event will run from 24-31st October and will be held in the Emerald Resort & Casino, just a few miles from Johannesburg:

In an article published on the TimesLive.co.za online journal, Martin Rice, CEO of the Emerald Resort & Casino said the following about WSOP South Africa: "Poker has, over the past half-decade, accelerated in popularity. Our Emerald Poker Series, and its growing fields, is testament to the unlimited success of the sport. It was only natural to follow-on its popularity with the greatest tournament on the planet."

Two WSOP events will be organized in South Africa this October, one being a 3-day $1,100 buy-in rebuy PLO tournament with a player cap of 200 and the Main Event will be a $5,000 NLHE Freezeout tourney with the number of players capped at 500. The Main Event will run for four days.
