WSOPE 2013 - Ausmus Wins First Golden Bracelet

WSOP 2012 Main Event 5th finisher Jeremy Ausmus scooped in his first ever career golden bracelet.

On Day 3 of the WSOPE Event #4 €1,650 Pot Limit Omaha, the six-handed Final Table took place with EPT Deauville High Roller Champion Juha Helppi in the lead and WSOP 2012 Main Event 5th finisher Jeremy Ausmus, as well as two times WSOP champion and EPT title holder Jason Mercier also at the table.

The Final Table seat draw was as follows:

Play started on Level 15 (1,500/3,000) and shortstack Michael Schwartz was out as soon as the 7th hand. Martin Kozlov and Mercier followed; the latter 3-bet to 60,000 from the Button on Helppi’s open to 16,000 from UTG on Level 18 (4,000/8,000). Helppi called and the flop came QDiamond 2Clubs 2Diamond, Mercier moved all-in for 128,000 and Helppi called again.

Helppi first improved to two pairs and then to flush.

Jan Jachtmann got eliminated after that, shoving with ace over pair and a gutshot draw on the 6-7-2 rainbow board. Helppi tabled two pairs and the last streets came neutral. The two remaining players started the heads-up with the following chip counts:

Ausmus: 258,000

Ausmus managed to double up two times in the duel, taking over the lead. On Level 22 (10,000/20,000), the tournament ended: Helppi limped from the Button, Ausmus checked and the flop came TSpade THeart 4Heart. Ausmus bet 38,000, Helppi raised to 80,000, Ausmus 3-bet to 140,000, Helppi 4-bet pot and so the stacks got in the middle.

The bubble was Pascal Rabany (37th) and he was followed by James Dempsey (35th), Phil Hellmuth (29th), Martin Jacobson (26th), Jonathan Little (22nd), Angel Guillen (18th) and Jonathan Duhamel (16th), among others. Eventually, a total of 7 players remained and WSOP champion Erik Seidel is in the lead with 711,000 in chips.
