WSOPE 2013 - Mateos Wins Main Event, Negreanu Player of the Year
Adrian Mateos won his first ever golden bracelet in the Main Event of the World Series of Poker Europe, while Daniel Negreanu earned his sixth one, along with the Player of the Year title and two records.
Last weekend saw two of the major events of this year’s WSOPE festival finish; the €10,450 Main Event Final Table had the following seat draw:
Seat 1: Benny Spindler – 1,748,000
Seat 2: Fabrice Soulier – 1,871,000
Seat 3: Dominik Nitsche – 2,354,000
Seat 4: Adrian Mateos – 3,781,000
Seat 5: Ravi Raghavan – 898,000
Seat 6: Jerome Huge – 637,000
Play started on Level 23 (4,000/12,000/24,000) and first out was a weakened Benny Spindler. He was followed by Ravi Raghavan, Jerome Huge and Dominik Nitsche. The two remaining players started the heads-up with stacks as seen below:
Adrian Mateos – 9,130,000
Fabrice Soulier – 2,120,000
Fabrice Soulier managed to come back and even grabbed the lead, only to lose back it all to the young Spaniard. The last hand occurred on Level 27 (10,000/30,000/60,000): Soulier raised to 130,000, Mateos 3-bet to 310,000 and Soulier called. The flop came 4 J 9, Mateos bet 275,000, Soulier moved all-in for 2,270,000 and Mateos called.
Soulier: 9 8
Mateos: A K
Turn: K
River: 5
Mateos won his personal best score as well as first ever golden bracelet with top pair.
Before that, however, the €25,600 High Roller also concluded and Daniel Negreanu won the €725,000 first prize, defeating Nicolau Villa-Lobos heads-up. Just by making it to the eight-handed Final Table, the Canadian pro secured his WSOP Player of the Year title, becoming the first player ever to scoop in the honours twice in their poker career.
Winning the event, Negreanu earned himself a sixth bracelet, as well as another record: he is the only one so far to achieve victory in all WSOP series: the world championship in Las Vegas, the WSOP Europe and the WSOP APAC.
