The 2013 Retrospective Part 5

In the fifth part of our retrospective take on the year 2013, we recall the highlights of the poker world from September and October.

Year 2013

September

The European Poker Tour Barcelona stop provided the majority of topics in the poker media and for the community in September. The most notorious issue was the hacking of the laptops of leading poker professionals. First, PLO pro Jens ‘Jeans89’ Kyllönen reported the trojans and then PokerStars Head of Poker Communications Lee Jones confirmed the news.

As far as the festival events are concerned, the EPT Barcelona Super High Roller was taken down by Vitaly Lunkin for €771,300, defeating Erik Seidel heads-up, and the Main Event victory went to Tom ‘hitthehole’ Middleton for €942,000.

Still at the EPT Barcelona festival, the enforcement of the new Rule 29 of the TDA outraged Daniel Negreanu so much that he gave up his stack in the €10,000 High Roller Re-entry event in anger and stormed out of the tournament floor. Later, he would return and march all the way to the runner-up finish of the event.

Contributing to the debate on an old issue, WSOP 2012 champion Greg Merson weighed in on the question of the rooms’ actions against seat scripting. Merson stated that if PokerStars would not act against players using software to automate table selection for them, he would stop playing at the room.

Heads-up ace Dan ‘mrGR33N13’ Colman proved unstoppable at the WCOOP and won $172,500 by taking down the NLHE High Roller Heads-Up event in an incredibly strong field.

By winning a $215 NLHE tournament, Chirs ‘moorman1’ Moorman hit he $10 million milestone in online multi-table tournament winnings, a feat one of its kind.

October

German player ‘PlayinWasted’ took down the World Championship of Online Poker Main Event, taking home $1,493,499 following a three-way deal.

Germans were prominent in the European Poker Tour London High Roller event as well, with Martin Finger, Tobias Reinkemeier and Christoph Vogelsang finishing in the top three positions, respectively.

In the European instalment of the World Series of Poker, Daniel Negreanu won the High Roller event for his Player of the Year title, as well as the honour of being the first player ever to win a bracelet in all three series of the WSOP.

Meanwhile, for his first bracelet victory in his career, young Adrian Mateos won the Main Event of the WSOPE.
